Druzy - When a dense bed of tiny individual crystals grows on a stone, it is known as a druzy (or drusy, druse, druzies, druzi, drusies depending upon the source). These crystals produces a glittering effect much like granulated sugar, making them perfect for creating distinctive jewelry. Druzy is formed through a geological process that allows crystals to build up on a rock fracture surface, vein or within a geode. This occurs when water brings minerals onto the surface of the stone, the water evaporates and the minerals are left behind to form crystals. Druzy grows slowly over millions of years as the top layer of grown on a stone base and is found anywhere water can collect and evaporate on a rock over time, such as near river beds and shorelines. Quartz is the most common of the druzy types because silica is found all over the world.
